THE CHALLENGE

How do you get a beach-worth of sand in and out of the Century City Mall in Los Angeles without freezing time and space to get it done? The 5 P’s.

Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance.

Every successful experiential marketing project starts with a vision. For this particular campaign, the client wanted to create an activation that reflected the core values of health, wellness, and community for the brand. The goal was to create a memorable event that would generate buzz and foster genuine connections with their audience.

Our role at Honey Badger Fabrication was to turn this vision into a tangible, interactive reality. The initial planning phase is a critical step, involving brainstorming sessions with the client and our in-house design team. We mapped out the event’s layout, considered various materials and structures, and aligned every element with the brand’s identity.

Key questions we considered:

Does the overall design fit with the deadline?

Does the budget lineup with the vision?

What challenges might arise with this design and event format?

The answer to these questions shaped our approach, leading us to create an installation that combined cutting-edge technology with tactile, engaging elements. A significant part of this phase was finding materials that could withstand the traffic of both the attendees and their pets, which helped the client visualize the experience and allowed us to refine the design before construction began.

Next came the fabrication phase. Our team of skilled craftsmen and engineers got to work, using high-quality materials and precise craftsmanship to build the various components of the installation. Whether it was custom LED structures or interactive panels, we paid close attention to the smallest details to ensure everything met the client’s expectations.

One of the unique challenges we faced in this build was installing and striking a beach-worth of sand to and from the venue. This required innovative problem-solving and a collaborative effort between our design and fabrication teams. Management and organization were key.

The overnight installation was a carefully orchestrated effort. It was managed to ensure every piece of the structure was set up flawlessly. We had contingency plans for any unforeseen challenges—like power issues or weather changes—that could impact the setup.

With the clock ticking and the client eagerly anticipating the final reveal, precision was critical. From securing heavy structures to cleanup, every detail had to be perfect. This phase often involves last-minute adjustments, so our team was prepared to act swiftly and efficiently.

When the doors opened, the installation transformed from a mere structure into a dynamic experience. Attendees were captivated by the immersive environment, engaging with the brand’s story in an unforgettable way. The interactive elements not only generated awe but also encouraged people to capture and share the experience on social media, amplifying the campaign’s reach.

For Honeybadger Fabrication, seeing attendees’ genuine excitement was the ultimate reward. It validated our hard work and demonstrated the power of thoughtfully crafted experiential marketing.

Creating impactful experiential marketing projects requires a blend of creativity, technical expertise, and meticulous execution. At Honey Badger Fabrication, we are proud to bring brand visions to life through unforgettable experiences that leave a lasting impression.
