THE CHALLENGE

For this year’s Annual Nike SB Skate Jam, held on top of the rooftop parking lot at The Roe in Downtown Los Angeles, Honey Badger Fabrication was honored to bring the magic to the halfpipe. To celebrate the release of a rare Nike SB Dunk Low shoe, we created a show-stopping backdrop inspired by The Wizard of Oz.

Skaters shredded their way to the end of the Yellow Brick Road, where they encountered a scene straight out of the iconic story: Dorothy’s farmhouse from Kansas perched on top of the Wicked Witch of the West. The installation set the stage for an unforgettable day of free skating, drawing a huge turnout from the local skateboarding community.

The build presented unique challenges, but our team was ready. We designed and fabricated the farmhouse in modular sections, ensuring it could be transported, assembled, and disassembled quickly and efficiently. This was crucial, as the installation was scheduled for the morning of the event. Despite an unexpected delay in the start time, our preparation—assembling the structure multiple times in our shop to work out any potential issues—paid off. The Honeybadger Crew hit the ground running, finishing the setup with time to spare for other crews to complete their work.

The event was a true celebration of skate culture, creativity, and community. From the awe-inspiring setup to the energy of the crowd and the excitement on the ramp, the day was nothing short of magical.
